Carbonate Sedimentation is modeled by several production sources and redistribution by erosion and marine energy. The sediment is altered by localized chemical processes after deposition.
Carbonate Production
PHIL employs four depth-dependant carbonate production functions including:
>> laterally unrestricted shelf production
>> restricted shelf margin production
>> suspended mud produced on the platform
>> pelagic sediment
Carbonate Diagenesis
Mineral chemistry can be altered by reactions defined by Arrhenius equations which incorporate rates of reaction stimulated by changes in pressure and temperature. Influxes of reducing or oxidizing waters can be modeled based on hydrodynamic conditions at each time step.
